Born into a film-related family, Hudson appeared to be destined to be in the spotlight from a young age. Her mother Goldie Hawn was a film actor and her father Bill Hudson is comedian. From an early age, she loved performing and would take any opportunity to perform on the stage. She was taught dancing by her parents, and received ballet classes at the Santa Monica Playhouse when she was a little girl. In 1996, she got an appearance as a guest in the TV drama Party of Five. After being accepted into New York University by Kate Hudson, her goal was to pursue a career in the show business and not be able to earn an academic degree. After a few minor roles in films, she landed the role that proved to be a breakthrough role in her career. The role she was chosen for was Penny Lane in the comedy drama film Almost Famous. Even though the film was unsuccessful at the box office , it was well-received by critics and helped make Kate an established star in the American film industry.
